Poll Shows Opposition to Health Care Overhaul Declining

Opposition to the landmark health care overhaul declined over the past month, to 35 percent from 41 percent, according to the latest results of a tracking poll, reported Thursday. Fifty percent of the public held a favorable view of the law, up slightly from 48 percent a month ago, while 14 percent expressed no opinion about the measure, according to the poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Kresge Head Already Sees Resurgence in Detroit

The news is “completely positive.” “Extraordinary.” “A story arcing in all the right directions.” These utterances trip off the tongue of Richard “Rip” Rapson, the Kresge Foundation president. He’s talking about Detroit, not San Francisco or Paris, and Laura Trudeau, who heads Kresge’s Detroit program, nods her assent. This is the same Rapson who has repeatedly warned that without quick signs of change, he and other philanthropy executives would lose patience and interest in investing in the city’s revival.

Northwest Area Foundation Awards $1.9M in Grants

Cleveland Foundation Seeks to Build Modern Greenhouse in Cleveland’s Central Neighborhood

The Cleveland Foundation envisions building an expansive, ultra-modern hydroponic greenhouse in the middle of an impoverished Cleveland neighborhood where lettuce, basil and economic independence will become the main crops. The $24 million Green City Growers follows an economic model that the community-oriented foundation created for two other ventures, Evergreen Laundry Cooperative and Ohio Cooperative Solar.
